The majority of store-bought onions are grown and shipped from the West Coast, thousands of miles away, where conventional farming methods and extensive transit take a toll on both their flavor and nutrients. The onions are grown in sad soil that relies on harmful chemical fertilizers. By the time onions make it to your grocery store, you don't know for how long they've been stored, what farm they're coming from, and how many hands they've been passed through on their way to you.
