Conventional coffee comes from large-scale farms that pay their workers very low prices for their coffee beans, and force them to work long hours in difficult conditions. These farmers have little power to negotiate better prices or working conditions, and are often treated unfairly. Not to mention, global coffee production often leads to deforestation, soil erosion, and water pollution – all major threats to the earth.
