Laena McCarthy has a long history with preserves. She grew up in the Hudson Valley making preserves with her family and later traveled the world learning about the healing powers of different preserved foods. This exploration led her to discover her passion for plant-based condiments and in 2009, she founded Anarchy in a Jar. She first began cooking in borrowed restaurant kitchens in the middle of the night and her business began to grow.
Today, Laena works to meld old world methods with modern innovation, bringing new light to herbalism through delicious preserves. Fresh, simple ingredients are the key to a superior product, so Laena sources ingredients locally from Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley.
