Thank You from Puerto Rico

July 27, 2018

Last year, Local Roots contributed produce to the Queer Kitchen Brigade for their relief efforts in Puerto Rico. They canned jars of produce to distribute to Puerto Ricans after hurricane Maria hit — thanks to the support of our members! We received a lovely note from them, and wanted to share it with you.

"Long-awaited hieeeeeeee! Please forgive us for our distance. We have been collecting ourselves since going full speed on canning brigades, farming brigades, and continuing the solidarity work in other fronts. We started as a project fueled by urgency to provide immediate relief, and we want to thank ALL OF YOU who supported our efforts. This was a diasporic and community based solidarity project, and I'm so grateful we were able to do it together!

It's also been a minute since our last email so we owe you an UPDATE!

Our last NYC Brigade before some of us left to Puerto Rico took place at MayDay Space in Bushwick on December 12, 2017. It was an emotional and beautiful day! With support from Local Roots and other local farmers, we were able to preserve almost a 100 jars of seasonal fresh produce."

Thanks to all our members who helped with this cause!
