How we find our farmers

November 17, 2022

One of the most common questions Wen-Jay gets asked as the CEO of Local Roots is, how do you find your farmers? Watch her discuss here.

Here's what we look for:

They obviously have to be local. The word local is so generic and vague, which is why we define local as within 5 hours of NYC. This could be upstate NY, Pennsylvania or as close as NYC within half a mile of us.

We make sure the farmers we work with are at the top of their game so they’re growing the absolute best tasting foods for you.

We’re also looking for farmers and producers that are willing to try growing different varieties so that we can make local food more interesting and diverse.

Lastly, we want to make sure the people we are supporting are giving back to their community and that they’re easy to work with.

Since 2011, we’ve been using these strict guidelines to find farms to work with at Local Roots NYC and it’s the reason why our food tastes so damn good. It’s all about the farmers and producers.

Try food grown by our hand-selected local farms when you subscribe to any of our seasonal bundles.
